‘Friends Go West’

I wrote
most of these stories and posted them on fanfiction.net quite
a long time ago (I have revised them slightly here). They were inspired by the
photo of them all in Wild West gear that is shown with the link for them. They
are set in 1880s New Mexico and Arizona, in which the places named are
mostly real (not Uno Caballo), but their details and
inhabitants are fictional, except for a very few (what I say about Tombstone is
genuine, and so are most of the people named).
The sequence of stories starts with the first time they dream and their lives
are taken on from there to an epilogue; the second series then goes back to the
beginning, with the first meeting of Rachel and Monica (and
later Chandler), and takes the course of events up to their arrival in Arizona.
Ross and Joey do not figure after the first series, and they are even more
different from their New York
versions than is the case with the others. The stories are basically adventure,
with a certain amount of western-style humour. There
is no sex, except very much off-stage, but there is a fair bit of Western-style
violence.
The "real life", New York Friends situation in which the stories are dreamed
is definitely AU. Its important features are: Ross is
married to Emily. Rachel is okay with this and not dating anyone seriously. Chandler
and Monica are together, and Janice is not only okay with this but on friendly
terms with them all.
